On the day of Raksha Bandhan, brothers and sisters wear new clothes and observe the festival in the presence of their parents, elders and grandparents. Some sisters even keep a fast before tying rakhi on the wrist of brother.

The ritual involves lighting a diya or earthen lamp which representing the fire deity and performing of aarti by the sisters.
They perform prayers for the well-being of their brother and then apply a “tilak” and some “raw rice” on the forehead of their brothers.
Then she ties the sacred Rakhi thread on wrist of brother, along with this, a portion of sweet/ dessert or dry fruits is fed to the brother.
In return brother also give his blessings to her and promises to protect and stand by her whenever she needs.
